September 11, 2002
Today has been declared Patriot's Day.  This declaration was made to commemorate the almost three thousand Americans who lost their lives one year ago today when terrorists attacked our nation.  These innocent Americans lost their lives at the
World Trade Center, The Pentagon and in rural Pennsylvania.
We start this morning with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Today at Shepherd Elementary we dedicate our new flagpole.
The plaque and flagpole come to us through the efforts of our PTO.
The flagpole at Shepherd Elementary will be one of many memorials across the
United States dedicated today to honor the victims and heroes of last September 11, 2001.
We honor them now with a moment of silence.
We conclude with Our National Anthem, lead by Mrs. Voigt and sung by
Mrs. Courtright and Mrs. Bair's 5th grade classes.
                                                                                     (spoken by principal, Tom Ryan)
