In 1993, Mrs. Voigt received permission from John Giles (the author of "The First Forest") to arrange the musical score for the story and put it into "musical play" form. Along with the performances that the students did, 30 trees were planted in the name of "Shepherd Elementary Gr. 3 Music Class" in the devastated Yellowstone National Forest in Montana.
